Leon Creek Greenway, Bamberger Nature Park Trailhead, North

Today's photos:

This was my first afternoon walk since May. I was on the trail from about 1 until 3 pm. As can be seen in the photos, there were clouds. A fairly strong breeze helped to offset the afternoon heat.

Each of Bexar County's five primary watersheds: Cibolo Creek, Salado Creek, the San Antonio River with Olmos Creek at its headwater, Leon Creek and the Medina River has its own unique characteristics. At least this section of the Leon Creek Greenway is dominated by mountain cedar and mesquite with yucca and sotol in the underbrush. It is transitional from the Edwards Plateau hill country to the Tamaulipan brush country ecosystems.

The Leon Creek Greenway currently has about eight miles of paved trail. The parks along the trail, such as Bamberger Nature Park and O. P. Schnabel Park, have additional trails, so there are many more walks to come along this greenway.

Footnote: there is one more set of photos from today's walk that I will publish on Thursday, Sep 1. All I'll say now is that they are of another remarkable encounter.
